Luneside at 40 is a group exhibition celebrating forty years of Luneside Studios, it runs from the 21st August to the 11th September, 2023.
These four pieces are illustrative of my street and photo-documentary work. They are each printed on Fujicolor Crystal Archive Professional Paper Super Type P, and will only be printed once.
Underground Cave – Stockholm’s Metro System is an Underground Art Gallery. This photograph is of Kungsträdgården Station, celebrated and often photographed for its use of fake classical ruins. I wanted to shift focus from the installation of art, to the installation of the infrastructure of escalators and elevators. It was created during a self-organised tour of national photographic museums of the Baltic.
Glass Nun – A Nun that isn’t a Nun making a film about religion and the erotic imagination. This photograph was created by shooting from within Oslo Opera House, during a late summer evening. The aim to juxtapose the lines of lights within, to the angled lines of the glass building, revealing the artist, her reflection(s) and her assistant between the lights.
Geometric Arctic – A building in Longyearbyen, the northernmost town in the world. An art space, bringing colour to Adventdalen, its’ roof, snow covered, falling in line with the context of its surroundings, another peak in the endless series of Spitsbergen, literally the land of ‘pointy mountains’. This photograph is part of my work on Svalbard, and a series connecting landscape with the built environment in the high Arctic.
Lower East Side – located between the Bowery and the East River from Canal to Houston streets, the Lower East Side was the location of settlement for the migrant communities that came to New York in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. This view from Manhattan Bridge explores some of the sedimentary layers of the City, from tenements to graffiti culture, popular expression and poverty fading upwards towards the projection of financial power, and the distant wealth of a global city.
Each print is £125. Please contact me if you require further information.
